Breaking: Barenboim gets a new boss
mainMatthias Schulz, artistic and finance director of Salzburg’s Mozart Foundation, is to be the next intendant of Berlin’s Sataatsoper.
Schulz, 38, succeeds Jürgen Flimm, who is retiring at 73.
The switch will be officially announced this afternoon.
Schulz is described as a pianist and economist. Barenboim, the music director, will have tested him out on four-hand.
Among his successful Salzburg initiatives is a Mozarteum residency in Cuba.
An excellent choice. He was always destined for higher things.
Matthias is a top man and this is a terrific appointment by the Staatsoper and Daniel Barenboim. Congratulations to all concerned!
