Video: German concert hall is wrecked by hailstorm

The concert hall of the Freiburg music academy has suffered damage estimated at a million Euros after a freak spring hailstorm burst the roof of the 1980s building.

The storm broke shortly after the end of a baroque concert and, according to one report ‘literally shredded’ the roof.

    ” … literally shredded … .” This is quite a large roof. How does a storm figuratively shred a roof? This occurrence was reported by the Badische Zeitung,
    perhaps other news media as well. Nevertheless, the German phrase, “regelrecht zerfetzt” in no consideration, resembles the improper use of literal in the juxtaposition to the figurative. The German phrase simply underscores the severity of the occurrence, in that the event occurred in the truest sense, factually.

    A popular t-shirt has it correct: The word “literal” makes me “figuratively” insane.
