In order to quell speculation about his state of health, we have been asked to report that the reason for David Zinman’s forthcoming cancellations in Japan and Switzerland is that he’s about to undergo hip replacement surgery in New York.

As soon as he has convalesced, he intends to bounce back onto the box fit as any other 78 year-old maestro.

I saw him in Prague a few weeks ago; conducted beautifully but did have a little trouble walking, and getting on/off the podium. I hope he’ll come out of the surgery better than ever.

One of the genuine talents in the conducting ranks: not a cover-photo, market-ready type. Merely gives wonderful performances! Let’s hope he continues a pace after recovering from surgery.

Wonderful conductor, but not a pretty face: no major marketing initiatives in his behalf, no rumors, no PR. Just terrific concerts wherever he goes. Hope he recovers quickly after the surgery so that he can continue to make the world safe for REAL (as distinct from “softened”) Beethoven!

By hip, I hope you do not mean “historically informed performance”.

the real question is whether he will now be “more hip”, or “less hip” than before 😉
