Reminds me of the Onion headline, “Unconventional Director Sets Shakespeare Play In Time, Place Shakespeare Intended” – what is it with these directors who think they know more than the composer (or history, for crying out loud)?

I see no need for Edna “Salome” Turnblad…

  • Simon S. says:

As far as I read the job description, this has nothing to do with an actual Salome-production. They seem to plan a series of drag queen performances where every one presents their own concept of the opera’s final scene (with music play back) in the context of a congress on gender and opera, but not in the context of a staged opera performance.

So all those of you who always see the end of opera coming up when Wotan wears a suit, please preserve your ammunition for other occasions.
