Arabella Steinbacher tells Bild she can’t bear standard concert wear.

Too many sequins. Too tight in the wrong places.

So for the past nine years Arabella, 33, has designed her own. She takes the sketches to a hometown dressmaker in Munich to be made up.

Agree with her about all the sequins and flowy dresses. You’d think many women soloists are getting their fashion guidance from a Victorian fashion catalog. Steinbacher is very attractive too and deserves better than that.

  • Andrew Condon says:

The great violinist Ida Haendel was always renowned for her spectacular concert attire. Not sure if she ever designed/made the frocks herself but they always left a vivid impression. To say that they were usually a riot of colour would be an understatement!

Is that relevant to be a featured musician? Or is that a news?
I do this since years as so do many musicians I know. It’s so normal and it’s not just an esthetic matter: Some dresses are not elastic or practical for playing.
It’s sad ‘music’ is less and less the main topic.
