Festival woes: Local favourite pulls out of Salzburg
mainGenia Kühmeier, Salzburg born and bred, withdrew today from this summer’s Marriage of Figaro ‘for personal reasons’. She will be replaced by the German soprano Annett Fritsch.
‘Personal reasons’ usually means a clash with the director, vocal problems or relationship issues.

Genia Kühmeier’s husband tragically passed away last year. She has two little children. No clashes or vocal problems.
That’s right, he was young, too. Dreadful.
I was going to make the same point as Pianoronald. We often forget that performing artists face the same vicissitudes as the rest of us.
