Swiss wins Austrian state prize

The Große Österreichische Staatspreis, granted in music every four years, has been awarded to the Swiss-born composer Beat Furrer in his 60th birthday year. The prize is worth 30,000 Euros and lots of official handshakes.

    What does this music ‘say’, what does it communicate? Apart from the colourful surface, what comes across? Imagine which kind of movie would be accompanied by it.

    The idiom of the piece in this video stems from the sixties of the last century. Now it has turned into convention, rewarded by state prizes.

    I attended the concert in the video. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I actually found other parts more interesting than what is in the clip itself.
