He’s a nice guy and his puppyish enthusiasm is infectious! Conducted an exciting Anna Bolena for WNO in 2013. Good luck to him!

    • SDReader says:

Puppy is right. I heard a hopeless Madama Butterfly conducted by this man last summer. It is a tough score, certainly, but he simply had no clue about its construction or pacing. He had been hired only because he is Italian, no doubt. Months later he grandly quit Bari, as if he was some kind of major loss that was supposed to make a political funding point, à la Noseda, Muti, Mehta in other Italian houses last year.

In short, I am not impressed.

    • Edgar Brenninkmeyer says:

Agree. Attended a fiery Trovatore at La Venice in September last year. Molto benissimo. Thankfully, the house was only on fire musically. But what a fire it was. Lucky for Lyon Opera to get him!
