I saw his La Cenerentola at the Luzerner Theater about a year ago. Rock solid, no nonsense, opera conducting. He really understands singers. Held everything together with the ultimate professionalism. BR made a good choice.

Fabulous musician. Intelligent, erudite, scholarly, and a fine composer, arranger and pianist. Deep interest in the music of the Stolters. His Christmas Day concerts at the Gewandhaus were brilliant.

  • Fabio Luisi says:

Congrats to Howard, my former colleague at Leipzig MDR.
A wonderful, fine musician, full of great musical ideas and with an enormous knowledge of the repertoire, not only for chorus.
A wise and great choice from BR.
