mainThe Leipzig Richard Wagner Foundation has given its annual Euro 10,000 award to Christian Thielemann. The prize goes to whichever musician or writer is thought to have done best for the old monster in the previous year.
Kind of think that the money could have gone to better use…discounted/free tickets for youngsters to see Wagner either in Leipzig or at Bayreuth itself.
… or for music education. That said, Thielemann is a great Wagner conductor.
Congratulations to him, his Wagner and Strauss are superb – long may it continue and I hope we shall see so much more of him in this country to enrich our musical lives.
Well-deserved. Thielemann is an unashamed promoter of this repertoire.
He is the nuts in this repertoire. I do though wish his mum gave him better advice on armoire.
