Record news: Warner buys another classical label
mainIt’s already sitting on EMI Classics, Erato and sundry brands from a 1990s buying splurge, but this is a company that can’t resist a bargain.
Today, it gobbled up the debt-burdened Polskie Nagrania for 1.9 million Euros.
PN is the oldest Polish label, with almost a century of Chopin interpretation and a vast amount of interesting artists and repertoire.
Good to see it remerging.

1990s buying splurge??? Is what why they liquidated Teldec classics, a label that exclusively had such esteemed artists as Daniel Barenboim and Nikolaus Harnoncourt?
Teldec was closed in 2001, as a consequence of this irresponsible “splurge” of the 90s, the classical recording industry’s second suicide attempt – much more successful this time, since no CD 2.0 descended from Heaven to save it.

I have my own doubts about this. Just like when Warner bought Finlandia Records. Result: 1 new release in 15 years.
