Luxury substitute: Carnegie calls in Netrebko
mainSoprano Anna Netrebko has graciously stepped in to replace Elīna Garanča, who is unable to perform due to illness, in Sunday’s MET Orchestra concert. Netrebko will perform songs by Dvořák and R. Strauss. Tickets are still available: http://bit.ly/1zTYhB7
And the pro-Ukraine protesters say they’ll follow her there.
Interesting to see a photo from her more slender days…
So true, Brian – and I’ll bet you were slender once, too.
Think they will hang “novorossia ” flag as a backdrop ?
No,she’ll just sing, and very well, too. And that is just about all that matters here.
Unfortunately she will NOT be singing the Berg Early Songs originally scheduled. These made a nice symmetrical contrast with Carter’s Three Illusions on either side of the intermission. As always, Carnegie Hall has failed to notify its ticket-holders (e.g. me) of this change in the program, even though we get bombarded with their advertising and fund-raising appeals on a regular basis.
