The tenor has given a very revealing interview in English to EuroNews about technique, singing out and never being able to relax.

Watch. This is how it’s done.

    Dead right 🙂

  • sdReader says:

He and Pappano just talk and talk and talk, seemingly by themselves. Is there anyone else there besides the cameraman?

    • liloloperaluv says:

cracks upThere must be an interviewer because s/he says something at the end that totally cracks up Kaufmann! Curious?

  • Leslie says:

I wish this opera were being shown somewhere near my home in Maine.

How do I find out where it is? I cannot go to NYC that day.

  • Erich says:

How wonderful to have two such intelligent, articulate, charming and self-questioning ‘Mensch’es in an increasingly superficial musical world. Long may they prosper….

Leslie, here’s the link to the ROH screening schedule. Just put your location in the search box and it will tell you the closest screening location and date.

It looks like Cambridge Mass 22 Feb for people who live in Maine.
I live in AZ and have the same problem as you; limited access. Last time I tried to see an ROH screening (Manon Lescaut) the cinema hadn’t received the correct “hardware” and there was no showing. You may wish to call first before a long drive.
    Good luck.

  • Kookanella says:

Very relieved they aren’t going to try to transpose this to the modern day! Manon Lescaut was truly AWFUL!

  • Milka says:

Bla ! Bla ! Bla! a mutual admiration society and my how they both pile the BS higher and deeper than most . One thinks air heads …and the great Anna Russell’s comment on
resonance where the brains ought to be — Pappano comes off a littler more stupid
than the so called world’s greatest tenor which ain’t saying much .

  • liloloperaluv says:

In many US locales theaters are prevented from showing ROH operas by a non-compet em clause from the distributor if they contract to show Live from the MET. Look for independent theaters. I will e driving 2 hours to see Chenier! Contact distributors, or is it the MET, to protest this ridiculous policy.

  • LILOLOPERALUV says:

Good news for Southern CA opera lovers. It looks like more theaters are signing up to show Andrea Chenier. The latest is South Coast Village in Costa Mesa/Santa Ana. As the date approaches, search your local independent theaters.
