Piatigorsky is a giant among few in cello’s history. What a shame, almost 40 years after his death, that his 1714 ‘Batta’ and 1725 ‘Baudiot’ Stradivari cellos languish with his children. Had he known his precious instruments would not be played in public for four decades, he surely would have decided their fate differently. What a travesty. Anyone know why the children ceaselessly hang on to the cellos?
