It comes from Al-Jazeera America and it shed the spotlight on the conductor’s efforts to teach ‘all 83,000 children in Baltimore public schools’, not to mention conducting students at Peabody and a new program for aspiring women conductors.

Marin is the epitome of the ambassador of music–mentor–class all the way.
Plaudits to Marin Alsop for her work. Similar to the programme that Simon Rattle developed with the BP, he took music into the community and accessed people who would normally never come into contact with classical music.
Being from Bal’more and a Peabody Institute instructor, I am glad to see the positive promotion for our city’s OrchKids program. Ms Alsop has done wonders for the music and children in our city by starting this program with her own money.
One of my acoustics students did her Master’s thesis on the design and renovation of the Baltimore City school that is used for the OrchKids program.
I see the positive benefits of music training in my acoustics students every day I am honored to teach them. They routinely have more creative and insightful ideas than the engineering and physics students that enter the Peabody acoustics program.
Baltimore is not the only success. Dear Marin Alsop!!! She has been a friend of mine and my family in Denver CO. since she was the conductor there in the 90’s! Love that she is doing such great things all over the world these days, especially in Baltimore!!!
BTW: I am a retired violist and played with the Bournemouth Phil in the UK many times while I lived in London from 1977-97. Wish I could have played with her in those days! (Did play numerous times with Simon Rattle in Liverpool and London, lucky me!).
Excellent vdo. Alsop amplifies her passions succinctly in the book “The Story of Naxos” for which she has made many excellent recordings. Discussing a new educational recording series she says: “To be able to reach out to young people is a passion of mine and this opportunity brings together all of my interests: love of music, desire to demystify classical music, communication with audiences, offering possibilities to young people, and igniting their imaginations.”
