Three weeks after giving birth, she’s back conducting. A record?

This is Talia Ilan with the New Haifa Symphony Orchestra, three weeks after giving birth to her second daughter Shira Beatriz Ilan-Xu. She tried to change the date, but couldn’t find a sub. So she conducted on two hours’ sleep.

The baby stayed at home with her father, conductor Yi-An Xu, who himself  sent a replacement to rehearse his orchestra in Rehovot.

  • I gave a piano master class to 25 Sonata Piano Camp pianists the first night I was home from the hospital after giving birth to my first child (he was born a month early). True, the master class was held in my home (which doubles as the piano camp location) but I enjoyed getting right back to work with sleeping child nearby.
