  • John says:

George London sang the title role at its premiere, just as the vocal problems that would end his career were beginning to plague him.

  • william osborne says:

I saw the production in Santa Fe and loved it The staging is hilarious. Menotti’s best opera.

  • Robert Holmén says:

I caught the last 10 minutes. Mr. Savage didn’t look comfortable in his skin.

  • Kevin Murphy says:

In last night’s cast, Abdul was sung by a very talented and promising 20 year old junior who gave an impressive overall performance. You’re welcome to your opinion, but you might have informed it a bit more clearly had you seen maybe even 15 minutes.

    • Robert Holmén says:

What part of “I caught the last 10 minutes…” are you mentally translating into “I saw the whole thing and here follows my comprehensive review…”?

  • Luke says:

I saw the entire broadcast and was extremely impressed both with IU’s production and with how good the opera is. The singers in the main roles were very strong, both vocally and as actors. No need to qualify the praise at all, but considering that this was a student cast it is all the more impressive. The production was first-rate. I had no previous experience with this opera and so am very appreciative of the chance to become acquainted with it through this broadcast. It really is quite stage-worthy. Hopefully, other opera companies will begin performing it.
