Outside of it being just a bit of local information
the departure or arrival of any conductor is of scant world interest
be it a Muti or Kamioka. It is a great opportunity to replace the conductor with a sound engineer and producer.
Actually he doesn’t walk out, but the town officials of Wuppertal are showing him the door. He was asking for permission taking on an additional 8-week gig in homeland Japan while keeping his Wuppertal gig, and the Wuppertal city officials said no. So in order to take the job in Japan he had to quit Wuppertal.
As the Dutch saying goes: one cannot eat off two plates at the same time. Good luck for both Wuppertal and for the departing maestro.
A point missed here: the Conductor has been under intense pressure dice canceling the contracts of the entire ensemble and attempting yo run the operas using only guests; this is an unprecedented and wildly socialized work situation. The maestro is despised in much of the Theater because of this move.
