The only known footage of Adolf Hitler’s sister Paula has resurfaced on a couple of websites. She lived and died in Liverpool, dependent apparently (like so many migrants, we are told) on Britain’s generous benefits system. Watch.

Thanks for sharing this. There’s some interesting stuff on Wiki, including :

“By her own account, after losing a job with a Viennese insurance company in 1930 when her employers found out who she was, Paula received financial support from her brother (which continued until his suicide in 1945), lived under the assumed family name Wolf at Hitler’s request (this was a childhood nickname of his which he had also used during the 1920s for security purposes) and worked sporadically.

She later claimed to have seen her brother about once a year during the 1930s and early 1940s. She worked as a secretary in a military hospital for much of World War II.”

What does this info has to do with music ?

  • Michael Endres says:

I cannot find any information about her living and dying in Liverpool.
She lived after the war in Berchtesgaden and died there.
Where does this ‘lived off UK benefits” and the Liverpool connection come from ?

  • Richard Russell says:

This is just not true. Paula Hitler lived in Vienna and Germany after the war as Paula Wolff and died in Berchtesgaden. There is no indication that she ever visited the UK, much less lived off UK benefits. She lived off Austrian benefits when she was a child and during the war was supported by her brother.

Hitler did have a nephew, son of his half-brother, who grew up in Liverpool. After the war he emigrated to the U.S. and lived on Long Island, NY.

Berchtesgarden is a suburb of Liverpool, of course.

    This provides some information:

The Pythonesquely-named Brian Hitler was, at some stage, an insurance salesman, I think.

    Irrelevant.
To the subject matter of music. Or even art.
It’s your blog, so you can indulge yourself however you wish. Yeah, yeah. I get that…

I have trouble understanding why this woman deserves to be hounded like a war criminal simply for being hitler’s sister. I think many of us have siblings we would not have chosen.

‘Generous benefits system’. That’s a bit Daily Mail. (And that’s not a good thing.)

  • Martin says:

I fail to see this article connects to the topic of this blog “classical music and related cultures”.
