Kevin Ramach, 54, has resigned as president and general director of Minnesota, less than three years into the job. His predecessor, Allan Naplan, lasted no more than a year.

Nina Archabal of the historical society has taken over as interim. Not looking good.

What an American disgrace that a city as wealthy as Minneapolis, and with a highly educated population, ranks 238th in the world for opera performances per year. The Minnesota Orchestra shows what they can do if they are given the funding.

Any time the city of Minneapolis wants to have a publicly-funded opera company, they can do it. Nothing is stopping them.

      But what’s the Minnesota Orchestra? 126th? 2,537th?

    • Pamela Brown says:

It does not seem that opera has been positioned as being relevant in the TC. But that is an issue of effective publicity, and that can be improved. The MO refuses to make itself irrelevant, and plasters its presence everywhere in the TC, even on busses. Opera can do the same thing…with even more drama and angst…:-0

These statements don’t make sense. The Minnesota Opera Company is the third-largest musical organization in the state (I presume), and in the 1970s and 80s was a leader in dramatic stages of contemporary operas.
What is more the mystery is why Minnesota doesn’t have a full-time ballet company, or at least a major residency by ABT.

Except the absence of available funds and a desire on anyone’s part to make it happen?
