The maestro, who died in January, was removed from his grave on the Italian island of Sardinia and brought to final rest in a private ceremony on November 1 at the cemetery of Sils Maria, in Engadin.

His children told Italian media that Abbado felt a ‘certain magic’ at Sils Maria and that he had enjoyed his finest hours with the festival at Lucerne.

Abbado was originally buried in the grounds of his holiday home in Sardinia.

One of the finest films of 1014 is “The Clouds of Sils Maria”, directed by Olivier Assayas, and starring Juliette Binoche. The film competed for the Palme d’Or in the main competition section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.Well worth watching. No wonder Abbado felt there was a “certain magic” in this place.

So you see, those who like to criticize the Swiss, that Switzerland isn’t such a bad country after all, as it attracts the most distinguished immigrants even when they ‘re dead 😉
