Just as he seemed to be on the mend, the Canadian-born, London-based jazz trumpeter Kenny Wheeler died yesterday, aged 84.

Our sympathies to his family and many friends.

  • Very sad to hear. Condolences to his family. He was one of the greats.

  • CLarrieu says:

Sad day for british Jazz, which has lost one of his greatest personalities, someone as important as George Shearing or Johnny Dankworth.
Strangely, as a composer, he belonged to those creators (like César Franck or Janácek) who found their distinctive voice past 40 years. But from then on, his music was unmistakably recognizable from the first bar, as was his flugelhorn sound. “Double Double You” and “Music for Large and Small Ensemble” will remain two of the most beautiful recordings ever…

One of the living legends… RIP Kenny.
