Boy Friend composer dies, aged 90

Sandy Wilson who wrote the 1953 musical that made Julie Andrews a stage star, has died in Taunton on the English south coast.

He never equalled the triumph of The Boy Friend, while Andrews went on to much greater things.

  • It is not surprising he did not create another successful show, because “The Boyfriend” is clearly a paraphrase of the genius of Vincent Youmans in “No, No, Nanette” and is completely unoriginal. Did make a splendid movie though. No wonder some people fear or avoid success. What do you do afterwards?
