Boy Friend composer dies, aged 90

Sandy Wilson who wrote the 1953 musical that made Julie Andrews a stage star, has died in Taunton on the English south coast.

He never equalled the triumph of The Boy Friend, while Andrews went on to much greater things.

    It is not surprising he did not create another successful show, because “The Boyfriend” is clearly a paraphrase of the genius of Vincent Youmans in “No, No, Nanette” and is completely unoriginal. Did make a splendid movie though. No wonder some people fear or avoid success. What do you do afterwards?
