I loathe these “Ten best”, “World’s Best” lists. They are largely gimmicks, as you can fashion statistics to mean just about anything. In this “Urban Audit”, exactly who laid out the guidelines and who undertook the analysis?

In public polls, all too often results are based on infinitesimal numbers of people who have their own likes and prejudices. In the “New 7 Wonders of the World”, it was utterly unbelievable that the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio (built in 1926) should have been included and not the entirety of the extraordinary Angkor Wat complex of temples spanning more than 400 sq. kms. in Cambodia, the remnants of an exceptional civilisation that was home to 1 million people a thousand years ago! But then more people have visited Rio than Cambodia!
