Troubled Symphony’s chairman drops dead

The Delaware Symphony (music director: David Amado) has been dancing on the edge of bankruptcy for the past five years.

Four months ago, its chairwoman Tatiana Copeland quit. Bruce Kallos stepped into the emergency. Kallos died this weekend, aged 79.

    The DSO’s FY13 audit showed a $111,000 surplus. The FY14 surplus will be more. In the two season since the 2012 financial crisis, the DSO has balanced market demand with fiscal responsibility. Challenged: yes – and maybe always. Troubled as the headline: no.
