Arvo Pärt is six digits richer

The composer has been awarded the 2014 Praemium Imperiale, Japan’s highest arts honour, worth $147,500. Big day for Estonia.

Other winners this years are the South African playwright Athol Fugard, architect Steven Holl, painter Martial Raysse and sculptor Giuseppe Penone.
