Young oboist gets probation after admitting child sex
mainRobin Brandon-Turner, who admitted making a girl pupil perform oral sex on him for three years from the age of seven, was sentenced yesterday at the High Court in Edinburgh.
The judge, Lord Turnbull, said he took into account the young man’s intelligence and background and that he would be required to conform to the instructions of a supervising officer.
The court heard that the defendant had the prospect of becoming a world-class oboe player. Brandon-Turner, who is now 18, was sentenced to two years’ probation.
Notwithstanding his age and the remorse shown, I think he’s a lucky boy. Unfortunately, in the age of the internet, he still might not be able to live this episode down that easily.

He did something seriously wrong here and got off incredibly lightly.
No, he didn’t. His picture is all over the internet and will be for years or forever. When the sexual acts started the offender still was a child by law himself. Everything that followed should be put into that context. And for that reason I feel he is punished way above what he deserved.
Punish yes, but to put him on the web pillory for maybe the rest of his life? Surely that’s a bit harsh.
A seven year old? Yeesh.
And seven sounds inappropriately early for oboe lessons too.
Intelligence or talent does not mitigate a 15 year-old’s molestation of a 7 year-old. His age may. He is at high risk of being a chronic sexual predator. He may be abused himself. It is a sad story and I hope whatever punishment he gets, that he, his family, the victim’s family and the victim get high quality help.
