Hero of the week: Soprano stands out against racist party

The operatic soprano Malena Ernman has boldly shed professional neutrality and launched a stinging attack on the anti-immigrant Sweden Democrat party, which she calls neo-fascist.

Malena, who is about to sing Handel’s Xerxes, says that she saw while living in Switzerland how racism and Islamophobia has become the norm in many countries across Europe. ‘I feel very strongly that enough is enough,’ she said.  ‘I think we all need to help each other and not just think about ourselves, understand that the whole world belong together. We, the rich part of the world, need to think about and start sharing with others.’

Attacks by the Sweden Democrats as a Leftist-extremist, she replies ‘I am a Royal Court singer.’

How Left is that?

Here she is singing last night on Swedish TV.

  • There is no such thing as Islamaphobia, it is a term manufactured by Muslims and usually lefty supporters to taint those who have the temerity to question many of the practices endemic under Islam e.g. stonings, misogyny, honour killings, gang rape, subjugation of women, brainwashing of children, apostasy…………need I go on?
Islam is stuck in the 14 century and those who follow Islam are behaving as such………
Maybe somone should introduce this lady to the survivors and relatives of those killed on 7/7 and then she can see how her maudling “lets all live together nicely” goes down.
And no I am not a racist, I count Asians, Afro Carribean and East Europeans amongst my friends, the issue is not about ethnicity or national identity, but a political ideology dressed us as a religion and it is that ideology I am opposed to.

  • Is a Royal Court singer the Swedish equivalent of the Germanic Kammersänger? If so, it has nothing to do with politics.

  • While living in Switzerland? Tough, really so tough. And since she’s quite selective at unmasking fascists -none in Galicia obviously-, she’s bound to become an overnight hero and her engagements should triple… And abiding to her own preaching, she’ll share some with Tamar?

  • “How Left is that?”

Well if you can’t be a royal court singer and belong to a leftist movement, then there’s something wrong with society. Music isn’t bound to one political view.
