Australia calls in substitute for homophobic soprano

Two days of frantic phone-arounds have resulted in a promising, if untested, Desdemona at Opera Australia.

Having dropped Tamar Iveri over homophobic sentiments posted on her facebook page, the company is calling in Lianna Haroutounian, an Armenian who made her Covent Garden debit last year as a last-minute sub as Elisabeth in Don Carlos.

She’s good.

    Agreed but whichever amateur took that illegal video needs to learn how to hold a camera still and not keep zooming in and out at whim, so as to make the viewer queasy. He was so obviously the loudest and nearest cheerer. Husband? The sound quality is surprisingly good, as was the singer the night I went.
