Better late than never? German ‘Grove’ goes online

Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart, the German musical reference work, has announced it will go online, starting in 2017.

By which time, Wikipedia may have rendered it redundant.

    It will take a lot of improvement on Wikipedia’s music entries to render the MGG redundant.

    I remember the editor-in-chief of the FAZ saying, “We’re not interested in being first; we’re interested in being the best”. Looking around at the general quality of what comes out of Germany it’s hard to argue with that statement, so I wouldn’t be too worried about MGG’s future.
