The least capricious of tenors has pulled out of a prestige date with Bryn Terfel in front of the Zurich Opera House on April 26, marking the inauguration of the redesigned Sechseläutenplatz. Jonas cited ‘personal reasons’ for the cancellation. Go figure.

Bryn will have to make do with Julie Fox, Anna Goryachova and Benjamin Bernheim, the Philharmonia Zurich and conductor Alain Altinoglu.

No cancellation but a wrong announcement. There where no contract between the house and Kaufmann, the “personal reasons” are indebted by the courtesy of the singer.

  • Urs says:

Benjamin Bernheim will surprise those who don’t know him. He has made a qualitative quantum leap in the last year. He recently jumped in to save a stage rehearsal of Les Contes d’Hoffmann due to an indisposed tenor and wowed the entire staff with not only his specatular singing but also with his refusal to replace the tenor in the performances. Despite his stunning performance during that rehearsal he claims to be “not ready yet” to do the role.

Benjamin Bernheim will surprise those who don’t know him. He has made a qualitative quantum leap in the last year. He recently jumped in to save a stage rehearsal of Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Zurich at the last minute when the regularly scheduled tenor had to withdraw. Not only did he delight those present with his brilliant singing and dialogues he stunned everyone by declining to take over the roll in the upcoming performances, explaining he ‘isn’t yet ready” to do the roll. How many talented young singers cultivate this virtue?

Let me guess: Urs and August are non-identical twins.
