Angelika Kirchschlager has pulled out of an Austrian date with Rufus Wainwright this Sunday, citing ‘condition of exhaustion’. British soprano Janis Kelly (pictured) steps in at Festspielhaus St. Pölten. She will sing Berlioz Les Nuits d’été and Wainwright’s All Days are Nights – Songs for Lulu.

  • Singers do go sick, especially as they are now flying all over the world get to the next gig.

Janis Kelly is a reliable, sound Soprano who will do a good job.

  • G Ell says:

If I was forced to appear next to Wainwright I too would call in sick. In relation to honest and veritable classical music, the man is a sham.

  • E. Ullrich says:

Sorry to hear that Ms Kirchschlager had to cancel her performance but I’m glad that Janis Kelly agreed to step in at such a short notice. She has worked with Rufus Wainwright before, after all she was the “Prima Donna” when his opera premiered in Manchester 2009, and she will certainly do a great job.

There is a slight mistake in the above info about the setlist, Rufus Wainwright himself will sing a selection from the song cycle “Les nuits d’été” by Berlioz.
