From the earliest sketchy discussions with the BBC about doing this series, I was determined that one whole programme should focus on the unsung role of women. Unsung, because banned by rabbis since the 8th century or thereabouts. Role, because woman found ways around the ban to become a crucible of melody and tradition, often passed quietly, mouth to ear.

On Sunday, I will meet some of the women who kept the music alive. Click here for link.

Now wait a minute! Forget about being banned by rabbis since the 8th century, women have been running the show from time immemorial. (Just kidding- looking forward to your show. For those of us in the States that sometimes cannot get BBC programs, could you give us a link?)
