The Lady in Number 6, Malcolm Clarke’s film about the pianist Alice Herz-Sommer who died ten days ago aged 110, has won the Oscar for best documentary short.

  • A pity she passed away a mere week before the Oscars. It would have been lovely to have seen/heard her reaction, unimportant as the Oscars were to her, a woman who had seen and lived through much. Cheers to the lady in no. 6!

  • David Murphy says:

Fantastic news! Alice’s extraordinary life, fueled by her love of and joy in music-making is finally receiving well deserved recognition. Hopefully this Oscar will mean that many more people will now come to know the inspirational story of this truly wonderful woman.

    • Nick says:

Can not agree more. Hopefully, too, more people will be inspired to explore the amazing world of classical music.

  • How wonderful. I hope that she knew this privately before her death.

  • Rosalind says:

I really want to see this film, wonder if Channel 4 or BBC might broadcast it?
