It’s a new award, and it went today to saxophonist Alexander Bone of Darlington. ‘Life is very surreal at the moment, and I really can’t thank everyone enough!’ he writes.  Report here.

Fantastic to see this award going to a Chethams student. A silver lining to go under many clouds forming over that institution recently

This kid would fit right in whether it was Harlem or the Chicago South Side, etc. There are some wonderful YouTube clips of his playing at an earlier age. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I hear shades of Pharoah Sanders and other greats in his playing Terrific ! And kudos to his dad who must have been a great inspiration and encouragement.
