Elina Garanca, who had her second baby last month, has told the Vienna Opera that she won’t after all be singing in April’s Rosenkavalier. Sophie Koch has been called in to sub.

  • Prewartreasure. says:

In your own time Elina, in your own time.

Octavian can wait – there’s a new Wagnerian mezzo in the wings. Rejoice gladly!

  • Sophie’s certainly been benefitting from Garanca’s maternity leave. First, it was Werther at the Met with Sankt Jonas von Kaufmann, now Rosenkavalier in Vienna. Shame she blew off La Favorite in Toulouse to do the former, though.

  • MarieTherese says:

Could you please correct the headline to read, ” Top Mezzo Soprano….”?

There are very few times when a mezzo gets top billing!
