Maria von Trapp, the last of the singing children, has died, aged 99.

She owes her immortality to Rodgers and Hammerstein.

  • Farewell Maria von Trapp. The Sound of Music movie was a huge part of my childhood and I never tire of seeing it again.

  • Branimir says:

Just a week ago, our our way from Switzerland to Croatia, we’ve spent a night at the Villa von Trapp, the original Salzburg home of the singing family which they left when fleeing from the Nazis. The house was sold to a Catholic missionary order in 1947 and was not open for public until 2008 when it was rented to be a nice hotel with great added sentimental value to the most of the guests, me included.

The lady working there told me that quite often arriving guests burst into tears the moment they enter the house, realizing they just stepped into the very same space where the real life story was happening.

If I knew how to post photos here I would post the photo of the photo hanging there on the wall showing Maria Franziska von Trapp smiling and holding a can of Red Bull while she was visiting Salzburg the last time 5 years ago that way thanking the Salzburg company for sponsoring her visit.

Instead, here is the link to the documentary.

  • Dougherty says:

Lest there be any confusion, Maria Franziska von Trapp was portrayed as “Louisa” in the musical and film of The Sound of Music. It could be said that Rogers and Hammerstein obscured her somewhat, rather than immortalizing her.
