The blind Italian tenor will attend memorial services at the death camp on January 27, according to the German-Jewish newspaper, the Algemeiner. Bocelli has frequently expressed his admiration for Israel and the Jewish people.

  • Rosana Martins says:

I am shocked by the bad taste of throwing a concert in Auschwitz on Holocaust Day. Respectful silence should be obligatory!

  • Performing Artist52 says:

Read above again, it says memorial service.

  • Dario says:

I am shockes by the bad taste to call Boccelli a tenor!

  • Iris says:

Bocelli will not only SPEAK at the International Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony, he has been awarded the honor of opening the ceremony; his support of Israel has been constant and unwavering since he was a young man and hehas never hesitated to express it to the press. The following information was printed in the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera–this is my translation:

“Andrea Bocelli will participate on Monday, Jan. 27, in the ceremony commemorating the 69th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, at Auschwitz-Birkenau, in Poland. The tenor, guest of the International Holocaust Memorial Day Event, will open the ceremony with a brief speech. An important honor for the Italian artist, always more often an ambassador of peace and faith to the world.”
