Nicholas Linfield, a professor of English Literature who appeared on one of the Camerata’s top-selling records, has died in Florida, aged 73.

English born and evacuated in the Blitz, he studied at Oxford and the University of Texas and spent his life teaching, performing and creating art.

Here’s the Camerata’s tribute.

I had the pleasure and honor of working with Nicholas Linfield at the Boston Arts Group in 1979. He was once able to jump in and take on an ad-lib role in a play with zero rehearsal and outshine us all. I remember his friendly and professional personality with pleasure, and am saddened to learn of his passing. It is a deep loss to the world of art. I also remember his electrifying performance in David Mamet’s A LIFE IN THE THEATER.
