…. in human nature, if nothing else.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a wonderful, anarchic expression of the meaninglessness of absolutely everything.

So some straitlaced geeks and sock-puppets have reset it to the Nativity Story.

Now, how perverse do you have to be to do that?

Oh, for Freddie’s sake….

Argh. I’m sure these straitlaced geeks just LOVE gay Zoroastrians who write songs called “Mustapha”. Or not.

Unfortunately, high quality sacred music is more often than not found in concert halls rather than places of worship. Masterpieces such as by the great composers, the B minor Mass of Bach and Verdi’s Requiem are not deemed liturgical by the Catholic Church, so are not suitable for services. Go figure.

So much of the music actually coming out of places like the Vatican and even Bethlehem these days is of poor quality and sung indifferently. This is evident from TV broadcasts.

Beauty, skill and technique are not inimical to devotion and feeling. Neither is reducing everything to the common denominator of taste. Probably a desire to better “pack the joint” in the immortal words of Whoopie Goldberg in “Sister Act” is behind the guitar twanging and rock rhythms, that personally I can’t stand.

I prefer this version (which, by the way, some people may consider it is also an “expression of the meaninglessness of absolutely everything”):
