Russian wins Prokofiev piano contest. Curtis grad comes second.

The winner of the state-sponsored, somewhat irregular Prokofiev piano competition is Sergei Redkin, a fourth-year student at the Rimsky Conservatoire in St Petersburg.

Second was the Indian-American Pallavi Mahidhara, a Curtis graduate now studying with Dmitry Bashkirov in Madrid.

Third was a Spaniard, Enrique Lapaz.

  • There are some YouTube videos of him playing various pieces. He seems to be an expressive player.

    The pianist – Sergei Redkin is brilliant and a student of the wonderful Professor Alexander Sandler. A name that deserves far more mention than given. Redkin is a winner of numerous competitions as are most students of Sandler.
