The website of the Italian Museum of Musical Instruments has posted some heart-rending pictures of the aftermath of the devastating  fire, along with an appeal for financial help to aid in its reconstruction.

The appeal is a worthy cause, but wouldn’t it be better if the museum were relocated away from Reggio Calabria, out of reach of the local Mafia? The probably cause of the fire is arson.

  • It would be hard to find a ‘safe’ place considering La Fenice in Venice and the opera house in Bari. Also, Reggio has no theatre that I know of. The museum is probably a main attraction for the area. Ann

    • Bill Noce says:

Has it been established that La Fenice was arson? I hadn’t herd that.

    • patrizia says:

Hi, I’m from Reggio Calabria and we have several theatres in the town. Anyway I’d like to say to the author of the article that the instrument museum is a nice part of the town, so there is no reason to move it away from Reggio. The main part of the citizenship which is honest, always struggle against this kind of criminal action. We are ready to join the reconstruction with the museum founders. So please, don’t ask to remove our cultural heritage but help us to restart. Thank you 🙂

  • R. James Tobin says:

What would be the motive for arson on the part of the Mafia?

This is an offensive stereotype. You should apologize.
