We drew your attention in summer to the adventurous opera season that is held in a disused quarry in Dalhalla and had dreamed of going out to see it there ourselves.
However, we learn today that the local authorities in Dalhalla have called off all Ring performances next August in order to vacate the quarry for a superannuated rock group. Friends of Dalhalla are justly up in arms.
The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra issued the following notice at 5pm, a coule of hours before concert time:
Following last night’s tragic incident, and its developments, BBC Scotland has cancelled tonight’s concert, Japanese Masters conducted by Ilan Volkov, out of respect for everyone affected. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you but we hope very much that you will understand the reason for our decision.

Much flutter in the operatic dovecotes this morning.
Glyndebourne has advertised for a part-time dramaturg, 45 days a year at around £250 ($400) a day.
But hang on a minute. It’s only 13 months since the company appointed Cori Ellison as its first-ever dramaturg.
