New York's smallest opera chief is dead

Anthony Amato has died at 91. He founded Amato Opera Theater in 1948.

He conducted and managed the show. His wife, Sally, made costumes and occasionally sang. Between them they gave hundreds of good singers their first professional break. Neil Shicoff sang at Amato.
