Just in: Barefoot diva is dead
mainCesaria Evora, the Cap Verde diva who called off her last tour three months ago, died today. The Government of Cap Verde has declared 48 hours of national mourning.

Not a good weekend. First, Christopher Hitchens (unremarked here presumably because he never in my exposure commented on music in any way), then the luminous Evora, and then Havel. Each in his or her way a giant of civilised communication.
