Scoop from the book tour: Syracuse to erect Mahler memorial
mainIt’s 100 years next month since Gustav Mahler swung upstate with the New York Philharmonic and the city of Syracuse is planning to mark the day with Why Mahler? on the radio and a new stone bench with Mahler’s name on in Clinton Square. The donor is Hamilton Armstrong.
Sadly, the Syracuse Symphony has cancelled a performance of Mahler’s fifth symphony for lack of funds.

Here are details for anyone who’s interested. The ceremony is near the Atrium in downtown Syracuse, the site of the Wieting Opera House where the 1910 concert took place.
The broadcast is on WCNY-FM 91.3 from Syracuse, WUNY-FM 89.5 from Utica, and WJNY-FM 90.9 from Watertown (also serving 1000 Islands area of Ontario).
