Ouch! Jonas Kaufmann sings on through pain of broken toe
mainOur Zurich colleague Christian Berzins attended a heroic feat from the Menuhin Festival at Gstaad.
Despite breaking a toe last Wednesday, Jonas Kaufmann kept is engagement at Gstaad, singing Siegmund in a concert performance of the first act of Die Walküre with tremendous poise.
Jaap van Zweden conducted the Festival Orchestra.

Well Siegmund is wounded, so he’s supposed to be in pain (and I’m sure the Gstaad fee was also an incentive)!
Nobody would have faulted him if he cancelled. Full praise for courage.
It is difficult enough to sing this music having two healthy feet, and he did it standing too!. I hope he sang well and his recovery will be speedy and complete.
Bravo!
What!! He didn’t cancel?
No, apparently he performed.
A real trooper!
Putting his best foot forward. Go Jonas!!
Ho-Yo-TOE-ho!
The net day he sang the same program i Grafenegg / Austria. Audience seemed extremely pleased by his singing, esp. endless Wäääääääälse.
Merci à jonas pour avoir accepté de chanter malgré sa douleur , on voyait bien qu il souffrait … bon rétablissement.
He’s no Joyce DiDonato, though!!!
Apparently he was playing football with kids (& Freundin?) when an unnamed family member fouled him. Aw….poor Jonas, except he was not wearing shoes! Why would anyone play a sport that involves kicking a ball without shoes?
