The Verbier Festival held its annual launch in Moscow last night in the press center of the Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

The main news line was that Valery Gergiev will be chief conductor of the Verbier Festival Orchestra.

His distinguished predecessors in that role are James Levine and Charles Dutoit.

Enough said.

Enough said? Too much said? Nothing said?
Who knows? Well, those who know, know, but who knows who knows?
    I don’t know.

    • Sir Kitt says:

Yep. An utterly meaningless statement, but one with a nasty enough undertone to get the comments (and clicks) flowing. Damn. I fell into his trap. Again.

  • Brian says:

It will be interesting to see how much Russian money flows into Verbier’s coffers now through private donations. I’d imagine it’s good business for the festival at least – they can attract oligarchs to the ski resort for a weekend and perhaps get an appearance by Netrebko or Matsuev out of it.

  • Ruben Greenberg says:

The Swiss make great watches. Will Gergiev be given one so that he can be on time for rehearsals?
