Biz news: Columbia are signing two artists a month
mainThe classical wing of Columbia Artists, led by Doug Sheldon and Stefana Atlas, are showing intent by beefing up a somnolent roster.
They are about to announce the signing of German cellist Maximilian Hornung.
Two weeks ago, Atlas signed the Heidelberg music director Elias Grandy.
We hear there are more to come.
It’s hotting up out there.
Isn’t it notoriously difficult these days to make money off recordings? I thought most of the money generated is now through live performance. I wonder how the artistic largesse pays off for them.
Columbia is an artists management agency; this is not Columbia Records, which “ceased to be” long ago.
Ah, thanks for clarifying. Makes sense.
I think subscription services like BP Digital Concert Hall and Medici TV (just to name two) have seen off lots of purchasing of classical performances.
I am surprised that an agency the size of CAMI is only signing two artists per month.
