Details are being dribbled out about the forthcoming Classic Brit awards on June 13.

Among the latest highlights to be released is, wait for it, ‘the ultimate duet’ – Bryn Terfel with Andrea Bocelli.

Erm, it appears they’ve sung together before at the Brits, ten years ago.

But there’s also Katherine Jenkins, fresh back from childbirth.

And a 70th birthday feature for Andrew Lloyd Webber.

So who said there’s nothing new in classical music?

  • Caravaggio says:

    The very definition of cheesy.

  • Petros Linardos says:

Unlike the above clip, here is one of the Pearl Fishers duet with a real classical tenor – one of the greatest of the last century.

    • V.Lind says:

It’s a good ‘un.But for me, Bjoerling-Merrill is the ultimate — with Hvorostovsky/Kaufman the best-looking! (and not bad sounding, either).

      • Petros LInardos says:

Before writing my previous post I checked out the Bjorling-Merrill too. For me it was a close call between different gods, no less. If I could travel back in time, listening to Bjorling would be a priority: recordings failed to capture the beauty of his voice, according to Victoria de los Angeles.

      • Sue says:

Totally agree about Bjorling. And about the boy beauty line-up; still mourning the loss of DH.

  • AMetFan says:

    Feels like a cheap suit.

  • Richard Craig says:

    Vulgar,crass what moreneed be said

  • Maria says:

You’re all missing the point. The essential thing is not to appear elitist.

In that respect, it should be monumentally successful.

    • Sue says:

Bingo. And singing with a handicapped person. That always appeals to the grievance, affirmative action crowd.

      • Patricia says:

Blind or not, I never liked his voice. Strain in the upper register, poor intonation. Where is Placido Domingo when we need him? And I really do like Bryn Terfel – must be my Welsh heritage- but he sometimes just brings me to tears when he sings.(Not Wagner. Never Wagner.)

        • Petros LInardos says:

I agree about Bocelli. Moreover, classical or not classical, I never found him that musical.

As for disability, let’s compare with Quasthoff. He was a first class interpreter with a first class voice, who just happened to be disabled due to thalidomide. To his credit, he never wanted to play the disabled card.

    • AMETFAN says:

There is not being elitist and there is being a whore. I prefer to keep my dignity intact. If you’re going to mate with a pop singer, choose a good pop singer.

  • Annie Claydon says:

Wow Wow Wow to the video…superb..Botchelli is quite simply unique
